Cookie and Beer Pairings
In honor of our upcoming Sipurbia attendance this Saturday, I did some very SERIOUS research in figuring out which of the cookies at Salt and Sugar Bakery go best with different types of beer. It turns out, they all pretty much taste great together once you have a couple beers in you :) But, here are some suggestions to get you started:
Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie and Sierra Nevada Hazy IPA
This combo really surprised me when I was testing it out. I noticed a citrus-y flavor from this IPA that paired really nicely with the semisweet chocolate chips. The flaky salt on the cookie also brought out even more flavor from the beer.
Captain Crunch Cookies and Figueroa Mountain Blonde Ale
The buttery, almost savory, flavors in the Captain Crunch cookie is cut with this bright and refreshing Blonde. There are notes of honey in this beer that also gave some added sweetness to the cookie.
Lemon Cookies and New Belgium Sunshine Wheat
Like a big lemon wedge on the edge of the beer glass, this lemon cookie goes wonderfully with a wheat beer like this one. The tart lemon flavor in the cookie is enhanced with the fruity and slightly tart flavors of the beer.
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies and New Belgium Oakspire Barrel Ale
While my instinct told me to pair the Double Chocolate Chip cookie with a darker beer like a stout, I realized that I’ve already basically done that with my Chocolate Stout seasonal cookie. So I found this unique Bourbon Barrel Ale and loved the combo. There are hints of vanilla and toffee in the beer, which lends itself perfectly to the brownie-like cookie.
Snickerdoodle Cookies and Kona Brewing Company Island Lager
This was such a fun combination. I never thought a simple lager would work with one of the cookies, but there is something about this one that works really well. The cinnamon flavor in the Snickerdoodle is complimented by the aromatic hops in this crisp and light beer.
These are only a few pairing suggestions, there are so many great beers these days and even more cookie flavors to test with in the future. Until then, catch us at Sipurbia this Saturday and try some of your own beer combinations with our cookies!
